Organizing research notes for non-fiction writers

Authors collect hundreds of PDFs and notes. SeekFiles AI lets you query the whole research corpus by theme without losing the citation.

A non-fiction book is a synthesis problem. You read 200 sources to write 80,000 words. Somewhere on page 312 of the seventh source is the perfect paragraph that anchors your chapter. Finding it again is half the battle.

The problem

Writers' research lives across Zotero, Google Scholar PDFs, scanned archive documents, interview transcripts, and a Notion full of margin notes. Search across all of that — by theme, by argument, by who-said-what — is brutal. Generic summarization tools are worse than useless because they paraphrase the source you wanted to quote literally.

How SeekFiles AI helps

  • Cited answers from your actual research — quote the source, page, and exact wording.
  • Cross-source synthesis"what does the literature say about agricultural collectivization in 1930s Ukraine?" across 30 PDFs at once.
  • Hybrid retrieval finds the paragraph even when your prompt's vocabulary differs from the source's.
  • Refuses to invent quotes — your editor will appreciate this.

A workflow

  1. Per-book assistant. Upload everything you've gathered — Zotero export, scanned archives, interview transcripts, your annotated PDFs.
  2. While drafting a chapter, ask the assistant for evidence on the theme. Cited paragraphs flow into your draft as block quotes with footnotes.
  3. When the publisher asks for sources, you already have them. Citations are real, never invented.

What to upload

  • Zotero PDF export
  • Scanned archive documents (OCR handled automatically)
  • Interview transcripts
  • Your own annotated notes / margin scans
  • Books in your reference shelf (PDFs)

The book is the synthesis. The assistant is the index that makes the synthesis tractable.
